To my great surprise, I've been in invited to participate in the 2014 Melbourne Masters Invitational. It's a three-format event: Standard/Modern/Legacy with three rounds of each in a 10-player round robin format.

Last year I played:
Standard, Mono Red Midrange, 2-1
Modern, Jund, 2-1
Legacy, RG Goblins, 3-0

This year it'll probably be:
Standard, UB Control
Modern, UB Tezzerator
Legacy, UB Control

I'm not kidding either. If people want to play their crappy midrange Pharika's Cure decks in standard I'm going to go so far over the too that they can't even comprehend how dead they are (in 20 turns).

Looks like fun Z :)

What's the prize support like?

PS: It has nothing to do with FoS, it's the rest of the website I'm sick of.
Ok then, sounds fine. Are you leaving the Fos then?

Z? Straight u/b control in legacy? Seems wierd, you have a list you want to share?

We'll keep the homefire burning for you Alex :)

Z, congrats man.

UB Control looks strong enough to make me venture back into possibly playing blue, haven't since my tempest days.

Probably audio content or youtube content.

Consider UW Venser in Modern. I'd say nobody will ever expect that. And it's actually capable of playing Spreading Seas without ever regreting anything.

James, Tezzerator is pretty bad. Just play a Teachings list or something.

I believe it's $5K in prize support, which is pretty huge for here. There's at least three PT players in attendance, but we'll see.

RE: Modern, I'm expecting a lot of UWR and Tezzerator beats that, if not much else.

Just play Jund. You get to play Chandra!

It worked well enough last year I guess.

Maybe ill test that RB Ad Nauseum aggro-combo deck though.

Pretty sure I'd never beat your legacy deck though since I play storm. At the very least, it would be VERY hard.

And was the green in the goblin list just for hooligan or was there something else?

Krosan Grip in the board.

Playing burn v. goblins is fun. Somebody needs to hate out all these combo decks so that my deck can be good again.

This is super similar to the list Caleb Durward was playing a few months ago. I like it, I just don't like a few of the cards in the deck. Most notably Chrome Mox and Inquisition, I'd probably just play Cabal Therapy instead. Mox was always so miserable when I played with the deck.

I like mox in theory since it gives you something else to do with force of will and dead disruption spells. Besides, who doesn't like turn 3 jace?

That and lily makes good use of all your dead cards.

Turn 2 Liliana is unbeatable but also very uncommon. I might brew a Teachings list that does that.

I actually just really, really like Teachings. The decks are always particularly skill intensive.

Mono-Red devotion splashing white for Aurelia's Fury? You also get assemble the legion, Aurelia herself, boros charm, etc. Could be spicy.

by LP, of the Fires
[deck]Spells:
4 Stormbreath Dragon
2 Boros Charm
3 Purphoros, God of the Forge
2 Ember Swallower
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Aurelia's Fury
1 Aurelia, the Warleader
1 Assemble the Legion
4 Frostburn Weird

Lands:
4 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
4 Temple of Triumph
4 Sacred Foundry
1 Plains
12 Mountain[/deck]

Deck obviously needs a realistic curve, but all the cards are powerful. Could play gates instead of basics, but I don't think you're actually that red intensive past turn 2.

Certainly wins harder than mono red does. Which is actually relevant considering if you putter out a few damage short in mono red you basically have to find the fanatic to win.

Chrome Mox is better than the 23rd land. The deck is absurdly mana hungry basically.

Combo? I don't think I can call it a combo after I've beaten it more times than I've lost to it.
