Fanatic has to resolve before the trigger happens. So it counts itself, and checks on resolution of the creature. (I assume that's why you're asking it that way?)

Fanatics trigger goes on the stack and is decided at the time it resolves. You can kill it in response to the trigger to decrease the damage by 1

This thread is of course our "stream of clan consciousness", but say here that you want to talk deck and post a link to it. Or at least post both here and in the appropriate deckbuilding thread so that deck ideas don't get lost in the 5 pages of daily banter that we generate here. I try to port stuff over as I catch it, but this clan is so outrageously prolific that I can't effectively keep up. I know no one has asked me to do so so don't take me wrong here, but I hate to see ideas with potential get lost in the tide.

Well here is what happened

My opponent casts Fanatic. The trigger ETB goes on the stack. In response to the trigger, I lightning strike his Reckoner, and he directs to my reckoner which I redirect to his Fanatic.

nSo when the trigger damage comes off the stack and resolves, the Fanatic and Reckoner are no longer on the battlefield. Would the trigger still deal the 4 damage from those two creatures?

Look, all I know is that if it's not countered, it comes into play. When it does, I hurt people.

Creature resolves, THEN the trigger happens. So you can respond to the trigger by killing it, (or another creature with more red symbols in its cost) to decrease the devotion.

No, if his devotion is 0 when the ability resolves, it checks devotion, sees 0, and deals 0 damage.

Ok that's what I thought. Couple people in my group thought it counted the damage as soon as it went on the stack.

If it comes up again, just remind them that triggers can be responded to before they resolve. A spell or ability doesn't do anything until it starts to resolve except pay its costs.

Like the list dpaine, won all my test games with it tonight except for a w/b humans list that was ridiculous. Turn 1 boros elite, turn two 2x boros elite, turn 3 flying pegasus that give humans flying.... yay for reasonable hands!

Then i lost a grindy game when he drew 3 fiend slayer paladins in a row... showed me his board: 4 High priest of penance, 4 Fiend slayer paladin. Yep, someone doesn't want to lose to aggro

To everyone on PyroRed; I assume you we're running 2 Flames of the Firebrand? We could switch those to Annihilating Fire to help with the Devotion Red semi-mirror; and the card isn't horrific:
- kills x/3s instantly; there's a few relevant ones
- exiles Phoenix,
Reckoner, Voice of Resurgence
- go upstairs for 3 at instant speed

The other alternatives are main decking Firefist Strikers to help get past Reckoner, or maybe Goblin Shortcutter if we think Firefist would be unreliable in this kind of deck; eg. -2 Flames, +2 Shortcutter; or -2 Flames, -1 Hammer, -1 Chandra; +4 FFS

I don't want to main deck anything for the matchup. Played a bunch of game 1's tonight (because I had the order for my entire SB delayed an entire week, just because the shop was missing x4 Flames of the Firebrand) and it felt close to 50/50. I like Flames a lot- it always does the 3 when you need it to; sorcery v. instant isn't a huge problem; and the 2-for-1's are magical. It really helps when I can kill an x/2 and then get Phoenix back. I think Seismic Stomp instead of Legion Loyalist would be the way to go:

-It doesn't die to instant-speed burn, which Reckoner decks have.
-It can "hit" multiple reckoners.
-Triggers YP.

In the 7+ games we played,
Reckoner was only an issue when he stopped an alpha strike, and Seismic Stomp counters that quite well; in addition, it is a decent card against other decks.

NOPE NEVER MIND. The issue is that email clients won't allow the pdf to be sent as an attachment because it's too big (they impose a ceiling on attachment size and this pdf is relatively huge). My default solution is dropbox as well...let me see if I can come up with an alternate solution.
