So pauper is basically just a deck made out of commons? Any set restrictions?

I think there's a pauper banned list, but no set restrictions.

There are also rules for cards that were common in one set but another rarity in a different one like Rancor.

Commons from any set I believe. I netdecked to see what decks were consistently placing in MODO and you can literally buy a good UR deck for >$10.


If it was EVER printed at common, it's a go.

Pauper Rules:

Rule #1
Common promo cards are only legal if the card has been printed at the common rarity in a set or product.

Rule #2
Paper Pauper as a rule of thumb is generally played in the Classic format, but it can also be played in any of the other governing formats such as Standard, Modern, ect.
The rules of the game will vary depending on which format you are playing in.

Example #1
If playing Standard Pauper your deck must use all common cards, and they must all come from the current Standard format play sets. If a card such as Oblivion Ring was ever printed as a common normally it would be legal for use regardless of rarity, but since you are playing in Standard format, that card has never been printed as a common within the allowable play sets so there for it is not a legal card.


Example #2
If playing Classic Pauper your deck must use all common cards, but they can be any of the common cards ever printed in paper Magic. Cards such as Oblivion Ring which was at one time printed as a common card, then changed to uncommon are still legal as they were at one time a common card.

The Pauper Magic Online banned list:

I thought I heard that High Tide was being added to the ban list, but maybe I'm dreaming that.

Y'know, I do remember reading something recently on the mothership about Pauper bannings. Something about banning Grapeshot and Empty the Warrrens because Pauper Storm is too good ro something like that.

I only remember this because I play Storm in Modern.

I think I am going to play a good old pre-rotation RDW until October. Something like
Have to say, it never fails to amaze me how awesome is the hound when paired with stonewright. Nothing like seeing a stabilized opponent underestimated the dog and took 14 damage.
