I hate Vick with the passion of a thousand exploding thirsts.
That isn't a real quantity. Considering just how immense one exploding thirst is. Even if the universe were infinite, it couldn't handle a thousand exploding thirsts.

In other words, 1000 exploding thirsts > ∞.

Much of the reason for my lack of support for my home team stems from the decision to pick up Vick. 5-10 years ago, I was a fan because they were my home team and they had a pretty solid bunch of players, even when they wouldn't do so well. Then, they started letting go of many of their best players, like McNabb and Westbrook, and picked up a bunch of thugs to replace them. Why? Because all that the franchise's management seemed to care about was winning a Superbowl, and they didn't give a fuck if the guys that might make this happen were all criminals. Know where this philosophy got them? Fucking nowhere. Overall, they have more losses than wins since they replaced McNabb with
Vick.

Stanz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the sky! Rivers and seas boiling!
Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes!
Winston Zeddmore: The dead rising from the grave!
Venkman: Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats, living together! Mass hysteria!

All that shit, and worse.

Also, before everyone gets all up in Avenger's shiz on my say-so, I'd like to point out that it's still likely not great - it's just not so incredibly outclassed anymore that there's no point in testing it.
I've been in love with the card since it was released, and the promo full-art is one of the most beautiful cards I can think of. I've always wanted it to be viable, and I'm hoping a slower Theros, as everybody is predicting, allows it to be so. That said, if it's simply not as good as other options then I'll only run it in casual brews.
I totally got a set of
foil Firemanes months ago. Still in the shipping sleeves. I feel good about it.

Uh
huh. It was actually much closer than people thought, if it wasn't for some special teams blunders, it would've been even closer. We've still got a pretty decent defense, just are a bit short on the offensive side this year. It's pretty much rebuilding time right now.
Your OC hire still boggles my mind.

And I have no problem with Clemson except for their coach. Total Bammer.

I've always been a Vick fan. Granted, I've know lots of criminals, so crime doesn't bother me much and dog fighting is pretty far down on the list of shit I care about.

Long time ago, there was something called Koth Control. It was mostly artifact-ramping Red midrange build which packed a lot of punch. It looks interesting as base of the deck for new standard. I'd most probably use splash to get access to Keyrunes tho.

[deck]23 LANDS
19 Mountain
4 Tectonic Edge

12 CREATURES
4 Inferno Titan
2 Wurmcoil Engine
2 Urabrask the Hidden
2 Spellskite
2 Solemn Simulacrum

9 INSTANTS and SORCERIES
4 Galvanic Blast
3 Tezzeret's Gambit
2 Slagstorm

16 OTHER SPELLS
4 Everflowing Chalice
4 Koth of the Hammer
3 Tumble Magnet
3 Sphere of the Suns
1 Batterskull
1 Karn Liberated

SIDEBOARD
3 Act of Aggression
4 Combust
2 Mindslaver
3 Ratchet Bomb
3 Shatter[/deck]

I was thinking about using small creature package instead of ramping and using just 4 Stormbreath Dragons as finishers. Currently decklist looks like this:

[deck]Creatures (16):
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Ash Zealot
4
Boros Reckoner
4 Thunderstorm Dragon

Planeswalkers (4):
4 Chandra, Pyromaster

Other Spells (16):
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
4 Mizzium Mortars
4 Anger of the Gods

Lands (24):
2 Mutavault
22 Mountain[/deck]

You should commit to a game plan, IMO. There isn't much ramping to consider except for from 3 to 5 in the form of a keyrune, but that doesn't mean you want to downsize your deck.

Specifically, I think Rakdos Cackler's an absolute no-go, Ash Zealot's a contender, but likely still too small. Mizzium Mortars is the premier sweeper, IMO, because it can kill a lot of Selesnya fatties, and won't wipe your board as well if you do decide to play bears. 4 Slagstorms is too many main board unless you expect BTE decks to be around preying on the 8-12 scryland decks. The idea's solid, but the execution's not quite there. I think midrange demands you to enter a second color. Red spells aren't powerful enough to take over games, but combined with literally any other color, you can shore up some of the weaknesses of red.

Well... they do. Thought it's still gonna be a good idea. At least against midrange. Swing. They die. Now sweep even while their mothafucka's are 5/5.

I'm looking at URx control and things like BR midrange. I just want to play Anger plus Chandra plus finishers that are resilient to the removal of the format. Still, there's not a lot of life gain in the format, so maybe you can just play to burn dudes out.

Kuroda red style maybe?

Basically all removal and creatures that don't die to very much (so x/5 or bigger). Could be RW or RB. RB control with Desecration Demon and Rakdos's Return maybe? I could see playing Keyrunes there; pressure control, protect Chandra etc.

RU tapout is possible but the blue spells aren't doing much right now and you can't play counters; so scary things will resolve that you can't answer.

RW is mostly just a burn deck with some board control; maybe that can be leveraged into sonething. All cheap removal plus Chandra plus resilient finishers plus mana sinks?

Basically there are a lot of ways to go. You're going to annihilate
aggro with so much removal 1-3; a resolved Chandra is a huge threat to Control. Black or White both have some answers to midrange creatures, Black a little more so.

Alternatively you can not play Anger and just build a deck with it in mind, which will probably look similar (burn, creatures that don't die to it, PWs).

Makes me think of the Sledgehammer deck post-board when you went up to 26 land plus all removal. Maybe that's a thing? That deck was SWEET.

Just something to throw into the think tank...Chapin made a comment that caught my attention. He remarked on the flexibility of Flames of the Firebrand relative to the Heroic mechanic in that you can use one point to target your hero then send the other two at their creature or to the dome. This may not end up doing much on the red side, but I could see doing this as a 2-1 or 3-1 with the black assassin against a low-curve aggro deck.

Well, you said "your OC hire" after quoting a post about VT, so no... not that clear.

Besides, our Offense is the college football version of Aggro Red - what's not to love?

I was talking about VTs OC hire. They hired Auburn's OC from last year who was responsible for our worst season in 50the years.

As for Dabo, I said he was a Bammer. That's all that needs to be said on that front.

Scourge of Valkas + Hammer do the mana sink thing pretty well. Yarpus, you and your infinite wisdom. I really hope Scourge is a thing.

Hmmmmm

Cruel Control feat.
All removal
Hand disruption
Hammer of Purphorous
Chandra
Master of Cruelties

Master is just an above the curve creature. Shuts down aggro hard, huge threat for control. Hit them? Literally anything in your deck now kills them.

Desecration Demon works too and is more resilient to removal. That's kinda what I want to explore now.

What are we if we can't be given second chances.
