The anti-red LD spell will be brutal in Rx aggro vs UWR control matches. It's Molten Rain with upside in that matchup (assuming they run enough mountains).

Current UWR plays anywhere from 8 to 12 Mountains. (Some number of Steam Vents and Sacred Foundry.)

I think that's probably enough to play the card against them. I'm more interested in seeing what this card is going to do about early-season red decks that always pop up. A lot of the reason these decks do well early into new seasons is because they punish decks without full cohesion, and a card that straight-up punishes these decks might be enough to keep the deck from freerolling the first 2~ months of the new Standard environment.

Of course I could also just be
metagaming too hard, that's sometimes a possibility.

I really doubt anyone wants to board in LD against Red Aggro, that seems really silly.

After reading the spoiler discussions...thrillho is a genuine idiot.
Add Valarin to that list.
Yeah, but at least Valarin is still back at Sally - Thrillho is currently humping doorknobs here.

I expect all of you who are spawning to have this.....

Or its been falsley advertised and is really the means of conveyance for RT's Burning Fury.
It looks more like the carriage is used for Redthirsts...spawning stick.

Other red aggro decks do. Its still 3 upstairs with an upside.

Fucking fuck...green just got a cursed freaking titan that specifically and directly hoses the new dragon!

Arbor Colossus :2mana: :symg: :symg: :symg:
Creature - Giant (R)

Reach
:3mana: :symg: :symg: Monstrosity 3
When Arbor Colossus becomes Monstrous, destroy target creature
with flying an opponent controls.
6/6

So we cast dragon, they cast a giant; if we can't kill it and they make their next land drop, dead dragon. And even if they don't dragon is now worthless unless we can hit 7 to go monstrous before them.

And another slap in the face, he's at Rare rather than Mythic.

The only bright point is that the cost of the damn thing locks them pretty hard into green unless they play a lot of fixing.

I have no idea why you even care. Chain it to Rocks, Doom Blade it, Mark it, whatever. This card isn't very exciting against red aggro.

I'll be happy if they tap out to play him turn 5. He doesn't have a huge impact until you make him monstrous, and even then the only thing it'll hit in red aggro is chandra's phoenix or the new dragon.

I'm being a reactive red mage, dammit. I hate it when they play the spoiler game of printing a good card, then spoiling a direct hoser to it a couple of days down the line. Plus I just got off a 4-night stretch and am tired and cranky. We're supposed to get all the new toys, Z...

Okay, pedantic tantrum over...the card will be fun in Limited. This is shaping up to be a very dynamic and entertaining Limited set overall.

Val:

I watched that wacky control game from last night and I was amused following along. If that's representative of a typical game, I should be playing around counterspell a lot less. You often had a hand full of land and a bunch of draw spells.

Yeah, that's very common. You bluff a counter a lot, even when you're playing like 8 post board sometimes.

I hate that the flavortext in Lightning Strike suggest it's lightning from a God's finger and yet in the art there is no pointing involved at all.

This will annoy me forever.

Yep, that's the huge power of decks that play on your opponent's turn. You play mind games and cause your opponent to second guess himself and frequently make suboptimal plays or outright misplays.

The big thing is to keep track of the counters used. If I've used a lot of counters early on you know its unlikely that I'm holding more, but if I was able to use a lot of my hard removal early you know what's coming.

It also helps when you get to play with your opponent's counters.

I like the Rb version just for Return and Dreadbore - I think that's probably going to be bigger game than just about anything W can bring to the table.

Yeah, I saw that. His opponent was also awful. "I'm getting milled to death right now, better play Sphinx's Revelation X=9 and Staff of Nin!"

He might as well have just conceded like 8 minutes earlier.
