so i played at scgs invitational....went 3-4 ugg 2-2 modern 1-2 standard. modern went round 1 vs gw little kid with 4 fiendslayer pallys main, 4 laylines and 3 kor firewalkers side. and round 2 vs bloomtitan and they went off turn 3 both games then i beat a scapeshift and a elf company deck. standard had 3 closer games, i was on attarka red, vs abzhan aggro game 3 i had him to one life and bricked 3 turns in a row. won vs abzhan control then lost to a sulti whip when he went from hellbent and dead on board next turn, to whip gain 10 life. oh well. my irl teammate walked away with 5 grand and a top 4 with merfolk however so it wasnt a totally wasted weekend
Ouch :frown:

At least your mate did well, Merfolk is quite strong in a fair environment.

EDIT: I HATE Bloom decks, almost want mindbreak trap for the MU.....

Hi all - I'm a infinite modo grinder (I was ranked 34th in the player of the year race during 2014 despite my long break).

Ok guys, I'm going to GP Charlotte. Would like to see what y'all think about my sideboard plans.

Image

[deck]RW Burn[/deck]

Twin:
IN: 2 Path, 1 Torpor Orb
OUT: 1 Searing Blaze, 2 Skullcrack

Thoughts: Not sure if siding out 2 more Skullcracks for 2 more Kor Firewalker is too cute or not. Would really like help with this one as my board plan seems too simple.

GBx:

On the Draw:
IN: 1 Path, 2 Molten Rain
OUT: 2 Searing Blaze, 1 Stomping Ground

On the Play:
IN: 1 Path, 2 Molten Rain
OUT: 2 Searing Blaze, 1 Grim Lavamancer

Thoughts: Not sure if boarding in a single Deflecting Palm is too cute or not. I think it is. Also not sure how bad Searing Blaze is. Should I leave more in? Should I auto board in two Paths or is that overboarding?

Tron:
IN: 2 Molten Rain, 3 Destructive Revelry
OUT: 2 Grim Lavamancer, 3 Searing Blaze

Thoughts: I don't think the 4th Revelry is worth it; overall I like this plan

Bloom:
IN: 2 Path, 1 Torpor Orb, 4 Destructive Revelry, 2 Molten Rain
OUT: 3 Searing Blaze, 2 Grim Lavamancer, 1 Flame Javelin, 2 Lightning Helix, 1 Eidolon of the Great Revel

Thoughts: I'm pretty confident in this board plan, except maybe -1 Eidolon, +1 Flame Javelin on the draw??

Grixis Delver:
IN: 1 Searing Blood, 1 Path to Exile
OUT: 2 Skullcrack

Thoughts: Seems good?

Burn Mirror:

On the Draw:
IN: 3 Kor Firewalker, 1 Searing Blood, 2 Deflecting Palm
OUT: 4 Eidolon of the Great Revel, 1 Rift Bolt, 1 Stomping Ground

On the Play:
IN: 3 Kor Firewalker, 2 Deflecting Palm
OUT: 2 Grim Lavamancer, 2 Searing Blaze, 1 Rift Bolt

Thoughts: I feel the play/draw matters so much in the mirror that on the draw I want to play some perverted tempo game & hope to draw into my Kor Firewalkers. On the play though, YOLO

Collected Company "Pod"
IN: 1 Searing Blood, 1 Torpor Orb, 2 Path to Exile
OUT: 2 Lightning Helix, 2 Rift Bolt
*-1 Stomping Ground, +1 Rift Bolt on the draw

Thoughts: Not sure if there is a better card to board out than Rift Bolt

Boggles:

On the Draw:
IN: 4 Destructive Revelry, 2 Deflecting Palm
OUT: 3 Searing Blaze, 3 Eidolon of the Great Revel

On the Play:
IN: 4 Destructive Revelry, 2 Deflecting Palm
OUT: 3 Searing Blaze, 2 Grim Lavamancer, 1 Rift Bolt

Thoughts: Not sure if there is a better card to board out than Rift Bolt on the draw.

Uhhh...it is 2 am & I'm leaving for Charlotte in 5 hours. Can't think of any other matchups right now. I'm looking for any and all input as I've only been playing this deck for about a week. Thanks in advance.

I love your MD Whole, in regards with the SB Plan.

I agree on most things except:

Cutting rift and blaze in the mirror (your better of cutting Lava Spike since the other cards can target creatures when your in a pinch)

Cutting Helix and Rift vs Pod/company same reason as above you need to kill some creatures so your better of either cutting creatures or Lava Spike.

I wouldn't cut Blaze either in the mirror match.

I would be very interested in a report as well. Some thoughts I like to hear your opinion on:

- Did you miss Atarka's Command at all?
- Flame Javelin and Torpor Orb.
- Any changes to the deck you'd make in retrospect?
- You lost out to Elves (the winner) in the Top 8. Would any sweepers in the SB have helped?

Thanks everyone for all the advice in this thread. My first game with the deck was the Saturday before the tournament, and this thread gave me the information and confidence to top 8 this thing. The side boarding especially. So many times I wanted to board in more Paths & other reactive cards out of fear, but my notes told me to stick with the plan.

Tournament report won't come for a few days because I got a 13 hour drive home. Also it'll probably be mostly Day 2 because I don't remember all of day 1, but I'll try my best.

One cool story tho: I was playing vs Jund game 1. Dumped my hand turn 3, all but 2 cards. He untaps, IoKs me, and sees a Bloodstained More...and a Flame Javelin. GOT EM!!

I've been playing 4c Burn for awhile now I named it YOLO burn on my youtube channel - I think it fine though I recommend this manabase:

Lands 19
4 City of Brass
4 Mana Confluence
4 Scalding Tarn
2 Wooded Foothills
2 Mountain
1 Blood Crypt
1 Sacred Foundry
1 Stomping Ground

The reason being is that running only shock and fetch combo will force you to take 9 damage almost every game (which leave you dead vs aggro and burn and also makes your softer vs midrange and tempo) or slow down (which will defeat the purpose of adding more 1-drops) and since your running so many 2-drops I'll recommend the 2nd mountain.

I use to run Gemstone Mines as well but I found that R2-3 to be horrible when I added all my 2cc SB cards.... which is why I opted for extra fetch and basics.

Do you notice much from the lack of thinning?

You shouldn't be playing fetches for the sake of thinning (I know I'm being a hypocrite here since I do it all the time, but the thinning your deck during the course of one R won't make a big enough differences), its just for grabbing lands and feeding grim/landfall.

Awesome, if I can somehow find 4 cheap guides then I can actually afford this on paper!

Won my second preptq in a row with burn ... i'm always more convinced that this deck is the best thing you can play in modern right now. Decklist just for reference :

[deck]
4 Goblin Guide
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
2 Grim Lavamancer

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Skullcrack
4 Boros Charm
3 Searing Blaze
2 Lightning Helix
1 Shard Volley

12 fetchlands
2 Sacred Foundry
2 Copperline Gorge
1 Stomping Ground
3 Mountain

3 Destructive Revelry
2 Molten Rain
2 Atarka's Command
2 Path to Exile
2 Deflecting Palm
2 Searing Blood
2 Volcanic Fallout
[/deck]

The manabase is not ideal , basically i didn't want to run 2 stomping grounds only for sideboard cards, but i was paranoid that having just one could make me vulnerable to ghost quarter/tectonic edge or twin tapping my only green source, so i added the copperline gorges that are basically free, although sometimes having your 4th land come into play tapped may hurt.

Highlight of the day was beating in the semifinals an uwr opponent that crushed me in the swiss and claimed burn is his best matchup. Game 1 i blanked his helices because i had triple skullcrack, game 2 he mulled to 4 never finding more than one land and/or a leyline and i left him angry as hell.

A midly good 2-2. It was just about getting back into modern and I couldn't find some cards to complete the deck.

First time playing Kor Firewalker, well that's completely stupid in the mirror.

I'm really starting to doubt Eidolon in this deck. I typically see him get a lot more mileage when you have more of a board presence. Heck, I'd rather he was Keldon Marauders to block early to make aggro matchups fair or beat face once against slower decks. Am I playing him wrong? I almost wish he was just another bolt effect.

Not playing Eidolon seems like crazy talk to me. Eidolon together with Swiftspear made this deck tier 1.

Empty hand, play Eidilon, but usually opponent has done the same by then. Or play him early and then die to him.

IDK what I'm doing wrong. I've been a sligh player for almost 16 years at this point so I might be trying to use him incorrectly.
