I like this Standard for the diversity of decks being played, but I haven't yet become invested in a deck or even a particular card enough that I feel something for it yet.

Like Dos Rakis and Falkenrath Aristocrat. Damn, but that deck was fun to play. It was fast, powerful, and capable of degenerate plays. Nothing felt better than curving Aristocrat into Thundermaw. Can I please have Dreadbore back?

I don't have that feeling yet with this Standard season, but then again I haven't played much of this Standard. For all the hype, Theros was kinda boring. It wasn't epic enough for a set based around mythology.

BR Zombies was and did run those two cards, but these clowns call it an uncatchy name which the MTG community rejects, because #fos :no2:

Although I think 4x Murderous Cut is crazy.
Cut is an awesome spell but not four like that.

I ran removal in my version of Big Red splash Black (deck needs a better name) with this as my spell suite:

[deck]
Spells
3 Wild Slash
2 Draconic Roar
1 Lightning Strike
2 Murderous Cut
2 Stoke the Flames
[/deck]

That configuration let me deal with a variety of threats, and I felt pretty happy with it.

Going forward I may try something like this:

[deck]
Spells
3 Wild Slash
3 Lightning Strike
2 Murderous Cut
2 Stoke the Flames
[/deck]

Wild Slash wasn't quite as useful as the three damage from Draconic Roar and Lightning Strike, but it helped a lot vs. small aggro. Draconic Roar was good when I could kill something and burn to the face, but it was lackluster otherwise. Lightning Strike is unconditional burn when it needs to be, and there was at least one game where it would have won me that match and the round. And if Esper Dragons and its hexproof monstrosities are going to be dominant, then Draconic Roar is fairly well dead in hand.

I added the Stokes since I wanted more spells that could go to the face. Plus, it was unexpected. I could leave my smaller creatures back, let the evasive creatures attack, and then tap the smaller guys to convoke the Stoke.
I was thinking of this:

You won't have that feeling because things change too quickly. That's the whole point.

Though you did mention Dos Rakis and that wasn't a real deck so maybe you'll be fine.
Aww, you're cute when you're trying so hard.

Why is it so difficult for some to understand that people play decks for many different reasons? Don't disparage someone else's choice of deck just because it's not something you would play. Players define fun in many different ways.

For the Dos Rakis deck, for me, that meant casting flying, hasty vampires and other big threats. Don't like it? Ok. Then don't play it.

I had fun with it and won a fair share of games with it, but I understood it wasn't a tier one deck. The constant tirades against RB are a bit tiresome.

Aren't "tokens" decks generally characterized by tokens plus anthem effects?
I thought of, built, and posted that list all within 45 minutes on my phone at school. It's not expected to be good. It's a kait special.

I actually liked Affinity standard.
I actually liked Bloodbraid > Blightning.
I actually liked how you could just hand me your tournament entry fee if your deck list didn't start out 4 Squadron Hawk, 4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor, 4 Stoneforge Mystic.
I actually liked that I knew I wasn't playing the best deck even though it contained 4 Tarmogoyf, 4 Thoughtseize.
You knew who the good guys were and who the bad guys were and things were straightforward. You could just play Magic and know what was going on in the rest of the room while you did it.

So yeah, you'll be fine. We were talking about the state of competitive Standard.
I'll be fine regardless. I know where I sit in regards to competitive play. I'm not a tier one player. That's why I usually don't post in the competitive threads much anymore. I'm ok doing my own thing.

I went to Game Day to have fun and get the promo Thunderbreak card. I ended up in two top eights and walked home with four promo cards. I went home very happy. That was my first Standard outing in almost a year.

For fuck's sake, I'm an adult playing a card game with monsters and magic spells. If I'm not having fun at it, if it becomes a chore to find the best deck to keep winning, then I might as well just walk away.

There's nothing wrong with the way he has fun. But we were talking about one thing and he was talking about another.

If you're a non-competitive player who will play whatever they want regardless of the meta game, then a discussion about how "too open" the format it doesn't really apply to you.
Uh, what? I can't comment on the diversity of standard because I'm not playing a competitive deck? What kind of elitist shit is this? Especially in the clan thread.

Diversity, for me, means that I'm not playing the same matches over and over again. It means I'm seeing new decks. I played against a GW modular deck with Salt Road Quartermasters and Fleecemane Lions. That was awesome not seeing damn Siege Rhinos everywhere.

So again, yes, we're talking about different things, but a diverse Standard certainly applies to me too.

I replied to your decklist, but I did it in the Red Sledgehammer thread in the Developing section. Wouldn't want to garbage up the clan thread with filthy casual talk about RB. ;-)

Levy's deck does some good things; it just needs a bit of tweaking.

As for Ojutai/Silumgar, we have access to discard (Thoughtseize/Despise) and sacrifice effects (Self-inflicted Wound, Foul-tongue Invocation, and even Merciless Executioner).

I'd be more concerned with getting around their removal and sweepers.

My criticism is there should be a villain (or cabal of villains in formats with cardpools too immense to possibly just have one best deck) for a given format, and then I want to sign up for that villain's news letter and get a shirt with their logo and maybe make a youtube video or two of me frantically crying demanding that the Dorito Loco Taco-filled neckbeards leave that particular villain alone.
