Heh, the card is quite good.

I still like Blade Splicer more in the heavy red list, but it's hard to argue against Finks when I'm already going for big Brimaz.

Hey Ham, I saw this on TCGPlayer's MTG page and it reminded me a bit of the stuff you've been experimenting with. A RW Isochron Scepter/Young Pyromancer build.

[deck]Boros Midrange[/deck]

It is covered in an article on the homepage, by Frank Lepore.

I've splashed a single Steam Vents to play Ephara, God of the Polis to pleasing results. When I'm half creatures already, a source of free card draw is good value. Strongly considering playing a Geist of Saint Traft over the 4th Brimaz with the access to blue.

Also swapped out Mogg Fanatic for Icatian Javelineers which is easier on the mana, kills mana dorks and lives, plays better with Restoration Angel, and trades with 2 toughness dudes.

Will stream this weekend, I've been overwhelmed with a sick dog. :argh:

Maybe just Izzet Staticaster? Still have aplication with restoration angel.

With new trend I would play Treasure Cruise. I also dont think Blood Moon going to be good as modern currently have access to 10 fetches. You can easily play around blood moon nowadays.

Yeah, I agree about Blood Moon becoming worse with allied fetches in the format.

Are you thinking about Staticaster in place of the Javelineers, or the singleton spot that I was considering for GoST?

Ham, I've been considering a Boros build of my own for MODO and was thinking of some options to combat the plethora of Treasure Cruise decks. I suggest you give [card]Jötun Grunt[/card] a nice look. Mwhahahaha...

Is everyone cruising these days? I'd love to run some Grunts if there's enough GY filling going on.

I'm still battling a sick dog so I haven't gotten to play a serious event in weeks.

:gonk:

This is a frightening development.

I may brew on my Team Italia deck for a bit just to really fuck with the meta.

Or just go back to a black splash. Zealous Persecution looks mighty tasty right now in the face of all those YP tokens.

I've confirmed that the horror of Burn splashing blue is indeed everywhere on MTGO. Its bastard twin UR Delver is also lurking nearby.

What happened to my predictable Affinity/Pod/Twin meta? :gonk:

Luckily, I'm a rebel and will continue making infinite angels to spite the meta.

I went back to an earlier version of the deck with maindeck Volcanic Fallout and Auriok Champion in an effort to combat the hordes of YPeezy tokens. I was amused to discover that many UR players are running more sorcery speed spells and jamming Monastery Swiftspear for max yolos. Well, that's ok, Fallout kills her, too.

On Val's suggestion of Jotun Grunt, I bought a playset for 50 cents and hit the queues to test his might. Would you believe if I told you it's very good? It had unexpected synergy with Restoration Angel, too. After a turn or two cleaning up graveyards, I can just blink it and start fresh.

Of course, running Volcanic Fallout and a bunch of creatures that die to it seems foolish, so I played with the 1-drops to find some value.

[deck]Modern BBBSG v. 1.41[/deck]

I'm a bit ashamed to be playing Vexing Devil, but he does what I want in a 1-drop (suck up removal) while surviving Fallout. Doomed Traveler leaves me a token after he kicks the bucket, and has some Kiki synergy. Doomed Traveler might be better as Figure of Destiny, so I'll swap it out if it under-performs.

I'll figure out the SB soon, but I'm sure it contains Kor Firewalker, Ethersworn Canonist / Eidolon of Rhetoric, Linvala and then some Grafdigger's Cages.

I played Brozek Boros Landfall a lot last year. The legend rule on Flagstones kinda hurt the deck a bit, but I still like it. Boros Charm actually gives it a fighting chance these days.

I ran this to a 3-1 finish in tonight's Modern daily -

[deck]BBBSG v. 1.42[/deck]

I brewed this version out of a desire to avoid tapping out on T3 and later, because of the frequency of decks just killing me if I leave myself exposed. This version trades power for flexibility.

Since Pod and Scapeshift are big, Aven Mindcensor lets me play to the board while directly hurting their gameplan. Knight of the White Orchid catches me up in games where I'm behind on land, and first strike is a nice ability when I'm not looking to ramp.

The usual gameplan with this version is to play a dude, then sit on removal or a flash creature and pump FoD when I can.

Round 1: win vs. UR Delver (2-0)
Round 2: loss vs. RW Norin combo (0-2)
Round 3: win vs. Junk Pod (2-1)
Round 4: win vs. UR Delver (2-0)

I'm not sure if I got unlucky or outplayed in the Norin match. He presented a Norin / Soul Sisters deck in G1 with Genesis Chamber, then beat me to death slowly with 1/1 tokens. I had several turns to win via Kiki/Resto combo, but he had a path every time I went for it (three times).

I'm G2 he opened with a bunch of stuff I'd never seen before, including Champion of the Parish and Ajani's Pridemate, gaining too much life and becoming too big for me to kill. I won't lose sleep over this match.

I feel like the big draw for Boros now is Kor Firewalker and Volcanic Fallout ala Caleb Durward's experiment a few weeks ago. Thoughts?

I think a more aggressive deck like this could be good:

[deck]
Creatures (20)
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Steppe Lynx
4 Seeker of the Way
4 Plated Geopede
4 Boros Reckoner

Spells (18)
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Path to Exile
4 Lightning Helix
4 Volcanic Fallout
2 Ajani Vengeant

Lands (22)
4 Arid Mesa
3 Windswept Heath
3 Wooded Foothills
3 Sacred Foundry
2 Clifftop Retreat
2 Plains
3 Mountain
2 Ghost Quarter
[/deck]

I saw the norin combo deck on mtgpulse, it won a quite big tournament in japan. It looks fun and have lots of synergies, between norin/soul sister's/pridemate/champion of the parish/ and even purphoros.

I found it: http://mtgpulse.com/event/18469#260497 well, not big, there were 30 players XD

I'm a fan of both Seeker and Swiftspear surviving my own Volcanic Fallouts. They're very aggressive cards, too. It would certainly be a different build than my previous concepts, but similar to the old one I tried with Auriok Champion.

I played around with this in the practice room -

[deck]
Creatures:20
4 Figure of Destiny
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Seeker of the Way
4 Kor Firewalker
4 Prophetic Flamespeaker

Spells:18
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Path to Exile
4 Lightning Helix
4 Volcanic Fallout
1 Ajani Vengeant
1 Chandra, Pyromaster

Lands:22
4 Arid Mesa
2 Bloodstained Mire
2 Marsh Flats
4 Sacred Foundry
2 Mountain
2 Plains
4 Clifftop Retreat
2 Battlefield Forge

Sideboard:15
[/deck]

I think the Chandra + Ajani pairing might be better as a pair of Swords of Fire and Ice. I like stopping the curve at 3 with Prophetic Flamespeaker.

The deck ran pretty well, only having trouble with Scapeshift because I didn't have a sideboard.

Seeker of the Way is really good vs. Burn. The matchup is almost a joke with him in the maindeck, plus the Firewalkers and Helixes.

With some slight adjustments, the deck could be all humans and run Cavern of Souls. Champion of the Parish could replace FoD and Auriok Champion could replace Kor Firewalker.

No idea if that's worth a shit, since I only played for a few hours :jam:

Thoughts on Brimaz vs Flamespeaker? I don't like my three drops dying to bolt without value.
