So, we's getting a Modern event deck. Thoughts?

I hope it has a playset of Tarmogoyf.

I know it won't, obviously, but it would be one sure-fire way of driving the price of the card down.

If it's a limited print run, bad move. Seems like the next Commander's Arsenal to me.

Oh, if it's a limited print run, then I agree, bad move. I think the right way to do this would be in place of a Duel Deck release, and handle/print it the exact same way. It'll draw newer players to a format that isn't Standard, which would be good.

If it's built like a typical duel deck, it's full of 1-FoS that look neat but play very inconsistently. Unless it's a Pod deck :sherlock:

Speaking of Pod, I think 'll make a deal with the devil and play Melira Pod for the PTQ season. Best of a bad bunch I suppose.

Its got a much more complete game plan against the field. Having access to disruption, better removal or a more robust beatdown plan are all appealing. The relative combos are about equal.

Explanation times: I started playing modern with a Soul Sisters deck and found it very unimpressive, then switched to goblin tribal and had fun with it for a while.
I wanted to play something different, though, but I've noticed that my local meta features lots of Goyfs which brings us to lot of graveyard hate, so I discarded the idea of playing Storm and went for GR Tron, which is a strong deck but it's not really fun - also, local meta is ALSO becoming filled of Fulminator Mages and GW Hatebears, which make playing Tron really bothersome.
I tried out Boros Landfall but I didn't like it that much and I didn't want to play Splinter Twin, so I decided to try out Kiki Pod over Melira Pod because the field is already infested of graveyard hate that just stops your 3-pieces-combos (that don't even feature Pod...) halfway.

Now I know that my meta is warped, yet I was curious to hear more opinions.

And seriously: I'm
just trying to learn something here.

If they stop your GY, you can still kill them with beatdown (and Township) or out value them with Pod.

You've got access to ways of stopping GY hate anyway (abrupt decay, pridemage) in the maindeck anyway.

Pod is a very cool aggro deck that just happens to have a few infinite combos for value. It can win fairly as needed.

Well, the rest of the diestoremoval url fell off of my FoS shirt.

It seems appropriate.
That's not the first time that's happened lately, in regards to the material I used. I think I got a bad run of vinyl. That's never been an issue before I opened that roll of it.

I tried out BW Tokens a while back. Deck is sweet. Added red and Rally the Peasants, suddenly the deck was even sweeter. Who knew!?

There's a Modern GPT next weekend at my LGS. It's probably going to be filled with Standard decks. I was going to go and play Pod, but my wife has a prior engagement.

Both Pod decks can function as midrange beatdown decks if the player hates out the "oops I win" combos in Kiki or Melira. I play Kiki instead out of preference to Red and to just liking Kiki as a card. Kiki pod = 2 card combo. Melira is a 3 card combo win but can also follow the same beatdown with creatures and Gavony. As Z stated black opens it up to some pretty solid sideboard and mainboard options.

Haven't had this much fun in modern since I put Storm together. I would recommend on giving either Pod a try. Deck allows to win from multiple angles while still being a toolbox.

I hate modern as a format, just because it is the mutilated son of legacy with the golden rule "you can't be able to win before turn 4".

I now play in some modern events because they are prevalent in my area (a lot of modern, very few legacy). i have obviously my goblins deck but since it is just an all-in aggro deck that folds to any mass removal (unlike legacy goblins) , sometimes i borrow decks from friends. The first time i played melira pod i won a 30 people tournament using the combo just once (and not with melira, but with archangel of thune and spike feeder= infinite life, infinitely big creatures). Gavony township is really overpowered and most of the games revolved around controlling the opponent/buying time with my creatures/tutors until i started make everything big with township.
