Modded Skyrim Let's Play! EP02 Now Available!

Post #1 by Zionite » Wed Feb 27, 2013 6:14 am

I just revamped my Skyrim setup with all new mods that should be like nothing you've seen in the game before. Anyone interested in watching a playthrough? Why not go classic and choose my race, class, and quest path? I have a focus on hunting in this mod setup, Skyrim Redone overhauls all the perk trees to much cooler options as far as classes go, Frostfall brings the danger of dying from hypothermia and the need to setup campsites, etc.

Who's interested?

I've never played Skyrim but I'd be interested in being involved with a Let's play for a Game that has all of the classic Let's Play Things.

We are going with the Classic Let's Play style of Zionite outlaying all of the choices and then Votes are cast for them right?

I could start as an orc with an alcohol addiction, then progress to the skooma den near riften or the orc stronghold, get some orc followers, and lead my pack of horses.
Pretty sure I stumbled upon a killing kids mod; it actually has kids be your companion but for that to work they need to be able to die, so it's like a side-effect.

Definitely.

I recorded myself playing for a few hours last night from level 1-3 on an old ass Dark Elf mage, a refugee from Morrowind, and it clocked in at about 35gb at 720p (best resolution for stable FPS and capturing with graphical overhauls ATM). But I have editing software so I can cut out loading screens, config tinkering, AFKs, all that.

Is there a poll system on this board?

Poll only allows 10 options, so there's enough to get started here. Specify in thread for racial and method selections. Starting Friday and swapping the poll for specific perk trees and objectives. Vote away!

awesome!

EDIT: My test character going live in 4-5 hours on YouTube. ~30min runtime, features level 1-3, traveling from Whiterun to Helgen, resolving alternate start's Helgen quest, and exploring Embershard mine. There's spider punching, Ancestral Guardians, and NPC trickery in this test run. If you have suggestions for graphic changes or any requested mod installations other than what we've already covered, let me know before Friday. The purpose of this was to test all my software and configuration before beginning the series and give the viewers a chance to give input before we're locked in. Enjoy!

It's working for me. Try again; it took a long time to upload due to length and resolution. Only 360p is available right now while it processes, because YouTube sucks like that.

I also forgot to mention that Friday's play will have voice over; I just didn't have my mic available for this.

Bleak Falls Barrow clear out. Lots of dying, leveling, and cool kills. Tested out the Longbow from SkyRe which has a lot of power behind it; can't wait for my orc to have one on horseback.

Looks like a Light Armored Orc bandit so far. That means it'll probably be sword+shield, or archery. But the one-handed weapon variation is amazing with specific perks for different weapon types, like you can spend perks in maces or tantos or shortswords, etc. I'll be installing UFO (Ultimate Follower Overhaul) to facilitate having other bandit followers in mounted combat with me. I'll also be able to add stolen horses to my pack. The killable children mod is also installed.

This is going to be cool as hell. What town should I steal shit from first?

I'm having some hella fun editing.

Are we interested in long takes, see everything or just the highlights? It's choosing between 30 minutes and 2 hours.

So it turns out level 1-4 characters are little bitches that die anytime they step out of line. Note the tavern scene at the end of the episode: Dude needs levels.

So how do we get those levels? Vote now!

If I've learned anything from Video Games it's always kill the fucking mages first.

Are we going to vote for What Skills you are going to have?

I saw you could get better at Punching shit and Punching People to death on Horseback seems AWESOME.

Happy Birthday!

So the more you use a Weapon the better you get with the Weapon Type?

I saw you leveled up when you were using the Crossbow to Shoot People you just got drunk with in the back like a dick

What happened in the Storyline? I've got no idea what is going on XD

EDIT: Wow Giants are strong. Crossbows/Punching for close range seems like a great way to go.

Crossbows and using one handed weapons in both hands, I never liked shields

Yeah, you level up Marksman when you use ranged weapons. I imagine you'd level up Light Weaponry when you use Unarmed, since that's the tree with Unarmed perks.

I wanted their mead! Is that not what Gragnok would do? lol

Nothing's happened in the storyline at all. Alternate start basically puts the
beginning of the storyline on hold until you want to do it.

BTW it's not my birthday. I accidentally switched the 3 and 4, so my birthday is next month. :embarrass:

Sorry this is taking awhile to update; a lot has changed in the modding community since the last episode so I'm working on updating and getting it running smoothly first before capturing again. At the moment the game will not even launch lol.

This weekend I should have some time to do all the updates I need to and get it working again. Also going to be revamping graphics as the last video wasn't satisfying enough for me. The next one will look more like this.

Nice editing etc dude :)
Riding on horseback gunning people down like a badass mongol looks really fun.
Maybe adding a little narrative would make it more entertaining to watch? (some comedic context of gragnok being a drunk and always hunting for booze or something)

Also note that I have no idea how these let's plays are supposed to work, so take my advice at that :P

I really don't know either, I'm just doing whatever comes naturally. I'm just playing naturally and editing the highlights together usually. But recently I've started to go more cinematic simply because my mods let me turn everything off and just watch. So now I can cut actual scenes together and make it more like machinima.

So I'm not really sure if I should do commentary and more traditional let's play, because admittedly I'm not that great at constantly talking to myself. But I do like trying to craft a story based on Gragnok, and I could possibly do a VO. The cinematic stuff is more compelling because I haven't seen much quite like it. I never want to spend more than a weekend on any episode though, so I'm trying to balance my time for quick turnaround post production.

I'm still tweaking graphics and figuring out new ways to manipulate the camera. I have framerate issues only while capturing which is odd, but
normally I'm getting like 60 fps which should be plenty. There's also some camera limitations like not being able to flip to the front while horseback or having only so much zoom ability, and those are very restricting. I'm hoping I can mod the problem away. If I can get full camera manipulation, I'll start doing scripting and making this a lot more story-based.
