Red Deck Wins post-Origins

Thanks for the report! Some of your SB choices seem suboptimal when I compare them to what I might do... Which I think showcases the potential power this deck has. What changes would you make if you had to make some? How did magma jet and Chandra perform for you? What about the lands? Did you feel ...

SCG Chicago Report 9-5-1 Day 1 Round 1: U/B Control Started the day off with an easy matchup. Its a good matchup to begin with and for some reason he kept a one lander on the play and missed his second land drop. -2 Searing Blood -1 Wild Slash +3 Outpost siege Game went a little grindier than before...

Looks like someone copypasta'd Purp's list to a 49th-place finish: http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=87908 That was me, I found Purp's list on reddit and ran it the fnm before and played like a champ. If interested I can type up how it went more in detail I played ...

I played in a 5k TCG this weekend running the stock list and I felt it went pretty well. I ended up 7-2 placing 25th out of 320ish people. I also went into the tourny with zero byes where many people got 2 byes from tcg points. Rounds went as stated below 1: Red devotion 2-1 W The one loss was to un...

According to the tournament rules PDF, players are required to remember their own triggers and intentionally ignoring one is considered cheating.. A player is not required to remind an opponent about triggers the opponent controls (but at regular REL events it is encouraged). The warnings likely ha...

This is something I was never clear on. Say my opponent is running Ruric Thar, and i cast a spell and he lets it resolve without me taking 6 damage. Could i be given a game loss for ignoring the ruric thar trigger? As a note to the thread. Went 4-0 in a DE on Sat beating Mono u, rdw, Mono u splash w...

Any thoughts for Spiteful returned? It gives pseudo reach and hits for 3 for 2 mana. Plus bestow is relevant at 4 mana. I might test it over pack rat this friday as crazy as it sounds.

For an SCG open, what do you guys think the meta would be like there? I'm guessing it might be better to assume a heavier mono u and b meta there and run with the lists with 8 one drops?

If they are playing it card for card, you just want them to use all of their burn on your creatures and resolve a dragon that will be a nightmare for them to kill. The list from the GP holds no main or sideboard answers to dragon without a 2 for 1. i would consider holding your own burn for either Y...

Why do we care about opponent's haste dudes? Because there's that dragon which we cannot remove efficiently, so slowing it down helps us in the race. It also makes opposing phoenix less stellar since they will need to take a turn before they can block ours. What would you cut for it? Our sideboard ...

As far as toil/ trouble goes, it is something i could test with switching toil with skullcrack in the board. I like the fact it becomes sign in blood late game though and has won me a few games going turn 3 7 damage, turn 4 5 damage. I think the biggest draw to me is it does something for me game on...

I'm not saying you aren't playing enough lands, but be aware that "I haven't had any problems" is not sufficient reason to justify a lower land count. Use numbers. He asked for my list and questioned multiple 4 drops, i gave him my personal experiences with my list since that's all i have...

I would agree with the angers, they are a necessary and have really enjoyed them game 1 as well. On a fast start for an agro deck when you are on the draw, its near impossible to one for one them to death before you die yourself. At least thats the experience ive felt so far

how much would burning earth hurt you when you are running 13 dual lands yourself. Maybe you just dont care in the matchups you would play it in anyway.

I have been testing that list some online, the R/W burn list. I found replacing the 3 Warleader's helix with Chandra' Pyromancer to be working better for me. This may be due to limited testing though.

You can honestly use the list notap posted and switch Ashley with emily if we really want BTE. That would give you the explosive draw possibilities while keeping most everything else the same.

Holy one drops batman. I can actually see this working though. You just mash guys on the board till they run out of 1 for 1 removal, then overload a guy with madcaps to get past their first blockers, or just make them not able to block. I am going to try to test this online when i get home from work.

I don't think there is a huge learning curve between the two Calamity. You get more scrys from the land and better answers main deck from chained and a better sideboard. If you can play a few games with it and get used to playing with 4 tap lands, i don't see why you wouldn't want to run boros
