So doing damage to your opponent instead of yourself doesnt put you any closer to winning?? You act like its just a fog effect. It can do a lot of damage for 2 mana. There are definitely times where you are behind and it is not just a fog effect. There are also situations where DP isn't much better...

I'm 100% with Val on Deflecting Palm. The card is situational and gets worse the better your opponent is and the more likely it is that he/she expects you have it. The more you lean on the card and integrate it into your plan A, the more its value drops. It also contributes to inconsistency which is...

That being said, I think you're underestimating exactly how much small aggro is going to be present on day 0. This is usually when savvy players pilot aggro to capitalize on suboptimal three color builds. I think you're absolutely right. I would certainly play the list with Searing Blood at the sta...

Here's a fun list I threw together off of LPs: [deck] Creatures 4 Mantis Rider 4 Goblin Rabblemaster 3 Brimaz, King of Oreskos 1 Narset, Enlightened Master Noncreature spells 2 Sarkhan Dragonspeaker 1 Chandra, Pyromaster 4 Jeskai Charm 4 Stoke the Flames 4 Lightning Strike 4 Magma Jet 4 Chained to t...

I also think it's wrong, as the UW player pluses and invalidates your YP$, netting a card, and then they don't have to minus (at which point they're ahead on cards) until they can deal with the YP$ with a different card. YP$ keeps them from drawing cards now, but doesn't actually kill them before th...

I'm with Rhyno on Jund Walkers. They're faster and post-board they get a lot of interaction so we don't even have a fighting chance. The bad pilots who ramp with Nissa when they play her are very beatable, it's the ones who make a 4/4 every turn that are the problem. When they play Nissa correctly, ...

Quick follow-up: Wear // Tear may be a meta-call. It seems better in Pod and Bogles-heavy metas (the matchups with the most upside for W//T) and metas that aren't expecting to play against Storm. If a room is full of players without Storm hate, then it's better to have the card with more application...

Read about some interesting tech today. Play 1 Hallowed Fountain over an Island in the main to gain access to 2-3 Wear // Tear out of the board. Wear // Tear seems to actually just be an Echoing Truth that kills the targeted hate (although it does only hit one piece of it), as every hate piece I can...

I assume this was a mix-up?Didn't get there with burn at the Standard Open but I apparently ran the deck back in the modern event.

@zemanjaski I really felt that this past weekend. I kind of gave up laboring over card choices because it felt like no matter what I didn't have everything I needed. Definitely something I realized too late but at the very least know to watch for it in the future. @notarobot The idea is you just con...

I played at the SCG Open on Saturday and had a pretty mediocre showing. Here's the full-fledged report, the 75 I played, and some thoughts on the deck (despite their irrelevance as the format wanes). [deck] Creatures: 4 Young Pyromancer 4 Chandra's Phoenix Spells: 4 Chained to the Rocks 4 Shock 4 Ma...

Reckoner houses Rabblered so badly that it's actually embarrassing. I'm sticking with them for the Open, they're good enough enough matchups. Has anyone playtested them against MonoU by the way? I'd guess they'd be fine, not sure if they should come in though, I haven't tested them enough. I think ...

you sure? Lot's of juicy 4 cmc targets for Rakdos Return, no chains to deal with Courser... Rakdos's Return will always be a beating. It's not as if there are 0 ways to deal with courser in the list, and if your opponent doesn't have it, you don't get stuck with dead cards. I playtested today again...

I think the card is too slow and too narrow. I don't ever want to be casting it against MB, and it doesn't really do THAT much for you against RabbleRed. It doesn't really keep you from getting overwhelmed by triple one-drop openers and tapping out just lets them go full ham with pump effects to end...

Yeah SB is sweet against them. @Elricity After seeing the game where you decided to ignore Chandra, I agree you can ignore Chandra when you're plan is to send everything at the face, while you can't ignore Xenagos because he kills you too fast. But if my plan is to keep him off anything relevant whi...

@BrainsickHater: I recommend the 4th Mutavault since that card is solid vs UW control which I expect will be out in force, I also wanted to say BW (control or midrange) are actually rather well tuned in delaying us since they tend too run 8 or more discards spells which is quite brutal against 4cc ...

I think I agree with the mortars being better. Being able to stabilize through Nissa tramplers is a big deal as is dodging enchantment hate. Magma Spray is certainly a beating, which makes me like Reckoner more. They cut their terror effects for magma sprays and things that are less dead, which leav...

Against the UW DSphere builds, I'm bringing in 2 Wear//Tear in addition to Banishing LIght, so I'm not super worried about sheep. If they have FSP, oh well. Hopefully I have a Game 3, because I'm not going to plan on facing such a narrow card. Against the Cleansing builds I'm leaving in 2 Chains or ...
