Dos Grixis? Tres Rakis?

This deck is an attempt at a Grixis list splashing blue mostly for Izzet Charm. All three modes on the Charm provide something the deck wants: creature damage, spell counter, and card draw. I took it to an FNM and ended the night at 4-2 with it.

[deck]Lands 24
4 Blood Crypt
4 Dragonskull Summit
2 Rakdos Guildgate
6 Mountain
2 Watery Grave
2 Steam Vents
4 Sulfur Falls

Creatures 24
4 Stromkirk Noble
4 Ash Zealot
4 Knight of Infamy
1 Vampire Nighthawk
2 Stromkirk Captain
3 Boros Reckoner
4 Falkenrath Aristocrat
2 Thundermaw Hellkite

Spells 12
2 Dreadbore
4 Izzet Charm
4 Searing Spear
2 Flames of the Firebrand

Sideboard
2 Duress
2 Tragic Slip
2 Rakdos's Return
2 Evil Twin
2 Slaughter Games
1 Negate
1 Olivia Voldaren
1 Underworld Connections
1 Bloodgift Demon
1 Zealous Conscripts[/deck]

As an experiment, the deck was mostly successful,
easily capable of killing quickly. I used the Charms mostly as instant speed damage, but I did use all three modes during the evening. I like the versatility the blue splash enables though I want to find other stuff to use with it. The manabase proved to be surprisingly consistent, and the three shocklands overlapped nicely to allow the checklands to come into play untapped.

The core creatures – Noble, Zealot, Knight, Reckoner, Aristocrat, and Thundermaw – are very potent together. Adding in the Captains makes the Nobles much better late game and the Aristocrats become nigh unkillable in combat. The game slows down since the faster lists can't swing into that much first strike, and even bigger creatures can't attack profitably.

Edit: Made some minor changes to the deck and the sideboard.

I moved Evil Twin to the main as a utility creature. He can copy any of the others as needed, especially the Aristocrats and the Thundermaws, and he can copy an opponent's monsters. I'm debating between him and Olivia, but I like the flexibility and options that Twin gives to the deck.

As mentioned before, the Stromkirk Captains made the Nobles much more potent. I also added the Nighthawks back in for the lifegain and
deathtouch. Captain + Nighthawk is a potent combination.

Beckon Apparition and Rakdos Charm are there for the Junk Rites lists that are showing up. I changed to Apparition from Cremate because the token can be used to feed Aristocrat.

Well, that sucked. I went in to FNM expecting a lot of Reanimator and found mostly Control and Tempo decks waiting for me. I went 2-3 for the night. I love the versatility that Izzet Charm brings to the deck. I used all three modes, and it may be worth keeping them, but I'm leaning back towards a faster, Hellrider-based build.
