Running short on Tickets
I need to sell my THS - not sure if I can wait till they hit 3.5 might need to to settle for 3.3 though I still have roughly 300 tickets.
BnG Booster prices are dropping fast, I do believe this seasons will be brutal for grinders much like how DGM was (booster prices will drop >2 within a month or so)
looks like I'll be forced back into limited, aiming to farm a collection of Lion kings, Walkers and Gods

Sorry Ham, opened Phenax, Brimaz, Kiora, 4 Bile Blights, 2 Firedrinker Satyrs, Chromaticore, Herald of Torment, foil Satyr in 3 drafts. Plus I won one. Guess value is there?

Once the BnG booster devalue I hope I get your luck during my cracks.

Do you folks hold onto boosters until after the next set comes out to preserve value, or crack them? I don't play enough to really know how maximize value from prize packs.
Posted: Wed Feb 19, 2014 4:03 pm
by Kaitscralt
I never crack boosters unless they are for a flashback set and I don't feel like drafting it

by Kaitscralt
But then I draft for QP's
Posted: Wed Feb 19, 2014 4:33 pm
by LaZerBurn
I never crack mine, just sell them for tix to fund more play or cards.
Posted: Wed Feb 19, 2014 5:14 pm
by Pedros
If they cost so low then playing draft is really good value. For Example Innistrad/Innistrad/DKA had really good value while full set of draft boosters cost only 9 tixes (3,5/2) so draft for 11 tixes was really nice.

Ah, that makes sense. When packs drop below 3.change, I hold onto them. I hadn't considered drafting with them since I'm generally a weak limited player and don't spend much time practicing, but I suppose it's a better use of money than waiting 6 months for the packs to go back up and make a few extra dollars while spending real cash to enter events.

Just sell them for more tickets to get experimental cards and new sideboard tech for your Constructed decks

I prob should have sold my 20 BNG packs when they were at 3.7 but alas...I guess I'll just draft them...
I haven't figured out triple BNG yet. You having any luck, kait?

Oh, and in other news, I thought my friend had more standard staples than he does, and I don't want to pay $300 for a PTQ deck, so I guess I'll be playing Maze's end at the PTQ

I only did one BnG 3 draft, forced UW around Ephara. Lost to a worse deck. I am saving money since I qualified early, when season 4 is underway I will get into the thick of the draft format.

Some good news, tho. PTQs are returning to mtgo.

Well with 10 prelim events feeding one PTQ, and only 4-1 and 5-0 making the PTQ...I don't know how many people will be in each PTQ but I would guess not more than 150 people?

oh, i didn't read how they are doing them now.

If 600 people are willing to pay $30 to play in your event, would you limit it to 200?

If you have 600 people paying $30 a piece, why the fuck haven't you fixed/upgraded your servers

They took down daily events and ptqs and their solution is something a braindead 15 year old could think of

I mean $18,000 off attendance for a virtual tournament
What's the profit margin on this shit?

Nobody knows. The going belief is that even Hasbro isn't sure. The whole system is so mired in cross-outflux payments (for server space, updates to keep people's computers from crashing while they're playing, electricity and the like), but the big drain is the coding required to keep up with the breakneck speed of the paper game releasing a new expansion every 3 months (or less). Admittedly, it isn't like Hasby doesn't have a track record of using their peripheral projects just to advertise (they made a whole movie to sell the board game Battleship, after all), but the way it's set up, the more people who use their accounts the more it
costs them to run, and this is considered to be an exponential thing, so each person who logs on to their account is worth, say, 1.2 people's worth of server space
currently, and no end in site as long as they keep using the same crappy software... it is therefore likewise assumed the whole system is running at a significant deficit, despite the fact that they actually found a niche where people will pay for non-existent cards.

Not to mention, any money they make on the thing is funnelled right back into other, non-MTGO projects, and not necessarily even Magic-based projects.

Are they really making that much? Most people playing PTQ are grinders or Pros who are pretty much going inf.
IMO Its the limited players which wizards makes money from and the poor casuals.
