Prize support for paper events here is better than Japan, but not as good as what I've heard reported in USA / Oz.

If you're interested in getting into paper MDU I can out you in contact with people. Where in nsw do you live and will you be attending GP Sydney?

Very, very, very infinite.

You should be playing paper too, nsw is absurdly weak compared to vic.
I would like to deny that but I can't, my experience with the NSW meta-game is the very reason for my unintentional Snubbish/Condescending attitude towards the paper scene (I didn't even realize I was being condescending, until I relieved some angry emails but why I didn't comment or outright ignored some results) - this is something I'm working on hence my recent more neutral responses towards the non-regular or newer members.
Go make money FFS.[/

I really should :slant: esp. if the forced beta on 16th hasn't iron out the CPU, Trade Bugs, Draft Bugs and Crash issues (though recent reports have been good and my inside source (asking a random ORC :p) claims we'll get a massive update on the 9th).

I live In the inner suburbs (two stops from the city) - I don't really have any intention into getting back on the saddle yet (unless the beta drives me insane) but I'll keep your offer in mind.

Cool. When I'm in Sydney (which is a lot these days it seems) I stay near the Star; is that close by to you?

FWIW NSW is the next best state after Vic; but like I said, the level of competition isn't relative at all.

Yep, just a little over an hour.

I think no matter where you live in Australia if you can sport an 1850-1950 rating online (perhaps even 1700-1800) you should do well (esp. since our primetime is against the Asian Pacific) :).

(Gah I did it again with the paper snubbing)

Does it ever make sense to open prize packs, or should you always trade them?
The only reason you should be opening prize packs is if you've used them for your next draft.
Noted.

Pretty much. I went 9-0 at day 1 of GP Melbourne after all.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA—Preferring not to dictate the specifics of his social exclusion, progressive local parents Brad and Monica Tull are letting their son Josh choose his own method of being loathed and mocked by his peers, the couple reported Monday. “Rather than impose our own interests on Josh, our approach is to give him the opportunity to pick out the reasons he’s mercilessly bullied and made fun of every day at school,” said Monica Tull, citing her son’s unrestricted access to a broad menu of pursuits that will earn his classmates’ derision, such as the oboe, Magic: The Gathering, and theater set design. “Frankly, we wish our parents had given us such freedom of choice, instead of forcing us into activities like tap classes and scouting. Through our hands-off strategy, Josh will get to experience daily torment and cultivate very few friends on his own terms, not ours.” The permissive,
open-minded parents added that instead of telling Josh what to wear each morning, they always let him select from an array of department-store-brand sweatshirts and ill-fitting corduroy pants.

Yo madding, drafto next week?
If madding is too mad, i wouldn't mind. As long as it's a format I'm familiar with.
I mostly hang with Madding because of our Vash / Legato relationship.

I don't have a love / hate / kill relationship with you.

Nope, but I'll take a free win if they give me a free win.

P.S. once you use up your New player points, make sure you don't make the same mistake as Dpaine88 and grind 2-Man (I should have warned him earlier) the EV for 2-Man is so bad that even if you go 100% you STILL lose money. Stick with DE if you have 3.5 hours too spare or run 8-Mans and make sure you win ;-).

What about drafting?

What about drafting?
Limited requires godly skills and luck too go inf. its not recommended - hell even if your on LSV level you still won't go inf. with limited.

Stick with an abusive format (like playing Mono Blue Control in Pauper (I also started in pauper btw)) too make your initial bank then farm something like standard or modern once your confident (I have no experience with legacy).

With that said, if you enjoy playing draft/limited play draft/limited because if your only going after the money your only just going to ask for burnouts if you fail - make sure whatever you end up doing you do it with fun in mind.

Pauper might be a good way to go. I'm burnt out on standard / don't really want to buy cards this close to rotation.

What software do you use for recording?

Posted: Thu Jul 03, 2014 7:09 am
by magicdownunder
I PM you the details earlier:
For streaming and recording I suggest using Open Broadcaster Software because its excellent and free, for editing (not really needed) Windows Movie Maker would be fine (its not the best but its free and good for animations).
In regards with cards you can always borrow them (we even have a trade thread for that purpose) we can mostly like build anything in Standard, Block or Pauper with our joint resources :)

Yeah, mono blue in pauper was my start too.

I still prefer ultra grindy under powered decks to this day.

How do you rate burn in Pauper?
death, don't do it you'll never beat Blue (I tried).

The best "red" decks are UR Delver Combo or Affinity.

@Zem are still playing MOCS4 Appreciation Event? I think its at 1:00 AM on the 7th for you (2:00 AM for me).

How do you rate burn in Pauper?
Unplayable. I mean, it's a tier 1 deck and all, but Mono U Control is so much better than everything else it's silly; if you're concerned with affinity just play UR Control (mono u with flame slash main, REB in the board and Gorilla Shaman).

Posted: Thu Jul 03, 2014 7:27 am
by zemanjaski
The REBs are to win the mirror, not to beat affinity. Not sure if that was clear or not.

Mono U plays Preordain, Delver, Counterspell etc.

Affinity plays Frogmite...lol

Gorilla Shaman, blow up all your lands was the nut.

RW control is gas too, but can't beat MBC.

We get one free M15 Prelease online as long as you played 1 event.

I posted details here

here is the gist:

To show our appreciation for your immense patience, true desire to help, and constructive feedback, during the downtime before the Magic 2015 Prereleases begin, we will be granting every account that has logged in to Magic Online since April 2008 one each of the five M15 Prerelease objects and 35 phantom points. We will be setting up special Sealed Deck Prerelease queues over M15's first weekend that will accept one
Prerelease object and 35 phantom points as entry, but which are played with real packs (you keep what you open/draft) and pay out in real prizes. So whether you'd like to take us up on an M15 Prerelease on the house, or if you want to save those phantom points for later use (Holiday Cube returns July 16, for example!), that's entirely up to you.

People who don't play MUC in pauper...are just being different for the sake of it; just like people who didn't play Cawblade I guess.

Ev in paper varies by location. At the LGS, I run infinite making like,10-40 dollars a week depending on if I play both the cash tournaments during the week but it's generally meh since the competitions low and it's mostly for the social experience.

At bigger events, it's tougher as there are several players on pro tour super teams that you can reasonably expect to play against on the way to top eights which is where the money gets made and after three rounds, all the competition tends to be reasonable. Id say its still good though as outside of gps and opens, im around a 75+% winrate and I'm top eighting about half of the events.

My numbers only apply to constructed as I haven't played any large limited events since "leveling up" from scrub to reasonble forty card deck player.

My new schedule is probably going to make paper completely unreasonable for me, which sucks because there are a bunch of events coming up that I really want to go to, and team mates who want to go to them. :( Might be on the MODO train with you guys soon enough...
