On an unrelated note, cranking Metallica's Am I Evil at top volume from my iPod through a 20 watt Marshal Amp is just awesome. Fuck the neighbors!
20 Amps and you're expecting the ire of your neighbors?

Are they duplex neighbors?
FWIW, an iTouch at maximum volume through a 20 watt Marshall is MORE than enough to fill a 1 bedroom apartment. But, yeah I live upstairs with an apartment next to me and one below that. In Florida, apartment walls are pretty thin.

Granted, the amp is a solid state, but hell, I played bars and small venues with a 20 watt tube head
through a Marshall 4x12. I have pics of the rig in the Rogue's Gallery.

Perspective: Tom Morello of RATM placed stadiums with only a 50 watt JCM 800 through a half stack. He mic'd it, but still....dat power.

I'm sure you're used to your Ovation plugged into a 5-watt belt-attached practice amp, but I digress...

Been awhile since I've posted. Got sort of burned out on Magic for awhile, couldn't even bring myself to write up reports to the events I went to. I dislike this standard at the moment. The stores I play at primarily are mostly [mana]G[/mana] Devotion and [mana]B[/mana] Devotion. I do like Theros draft though.

Played a $5 RtR block draft last night for FNM. I got 1st with my crappy deck somehow. Every opponent I went against was mana screwed at least once while I wasn't at all. I'm not sure if it's because their mana was too ambitious, mine was built right, or I just got lucky. I have no fucking clue how to draft that block. Every time I look at a Dragon's Maze pack I think, "What the fuck is this?"

I could go for a tube screamer, though. Just Analog is so fucking expensive anymore.

I get my sound through my hands. But a nifty overdrive and wah + chorus is the icing on the cake.

Electric? An ESP Truckster. James Hetfield's custom from 2004. Eclipse body with minor mods and EMG 60/81 pickups. "Name" aside, it was everything I was looking for at the time and everything I need right now. It's a rare thing to be completely satisfied with an axe.

I don't need no stinkin' Floyd Rose and a whammy bar. And I don't need no twang cramping my style. Les Paul style with a hard edge all day.

I fuckin hate wammy bars. Fixed bridge 4lyfe

I've been between an Ibanez RGA42FM for E Standardish tunings and an Ibanez RGA321 Prestige for Drop C-ish tunings a while.

I kinda miss having an extra electric. I used to own the Gibson "Big 4": Explorer, Flying V, Les Paul, and SG. One by one I sold or traded them all, but I could jam in a wide range of tunings and find specific sounds through that arsenal. Now I just have my on main axe that I typically set to Standard with 10's and can go to drop-D. Occasionally, I go down a half step to fuck around when I'm drinking, but lately I've been a 'hired gun' if I jam or sit in, so Standard is usually where I want to be.

I approve of the guitar posts, but where did the phrase "X is so Y anymore" come from (emphasis mine)? I see it everywhere, and it definitely doesn't mean what you think it means.

Eh?
I think he means that
he wants a Tube Screamer, but he wants the Vintage TS-9 analog version. Not the Modern solid-state one. Different sounds. Like, completely. Listen to an old Sabbath song. It sounds like they're playing right next to you live, right? That's the beauty of analog - its organic. Digital sounds great at low volumes, like MP3's, but its nowhere near the quality of analog because it's cheaper. Simply put : they don't make 'em like they used to. And if you want the quality, it's damn sure expensive.

Fyi Brian May's guitar sounds the way it does because he built his own treble-booster that was either in the guitar or attached to his amp.

The warmth of tube amps on recordings comes from the tape it was recorded on, not the tube amp. See digital recordings of tube amps. It has similar warmth live, but it's a popular misconception that old bands live sounds = recorded sounds, and because of the technology that is simply not the case. Most of the popular recordings of the classics are also massively retouched, because the quality of the originals was shite compared to your typical mp3.

Tl;dr: Live amp sound has very little to do with recorded amp sound.

And tournament's over, I won!

Huge thanks to all y'all for your advice and thoughts not just after the past two days where I was off, but since I joined and have been trying to get better.

The tournament was at the level of an iq/ptq for player skill, as it had pretty much every big tourney player in atlanta, and most of the people who travel around the area to all the big events, so this means a huge deal to me in terms of confidence...

Seriously, thank you all so much. I have felt like my play has improved quite a bit since I joined. I mean, last standard I had 2x Vexing Devil in my deck... :frown:
You are all awesome, and I wish to give you hugs. HUGS!
