the most insulting trade i've ever been offered was a blood crypt and a playset of varolz (worth about 20 at the time) for a voice of resurgence (40) I told him to stop treating me like an idiot.

People bragging about making Jund standard work amuse me. I mean, no shit, you shove as many good cards as possible into a deck it will probably be halfway decent. Like, what kind of brilliance did it take to realize that?

the only experience i have in the market street on sally was offloading my foil shocks for Liliana of the Veils and regular shocks. Still pretty happy with that.

A mix of it being mythic, player demand, seeing semi play in standard & modern. I play the spirit of Bambi's mom in KikiPod.

I never trade on Market Street, but just read the movements and opinions on card prices (X huge gainers).
Have had to many idgets PM me for a trade of X bulk rares I have never heard of for shocklands. They also ask you to send them your $40 stuff first for their soon to be .20 stuff. I gave up and just trade face to face.

Yeah I have to think it'll come down in the near future. Although, the G/W scryland in Born to Gods may make it see more play.
I got rid of the 2 I opened in pre-releases to finish my wasteland playset.

Voice is $40 because it's a mythic that everyone running it's colors wants 4 of, but nobody wants to buy and crack DMZ boosters to get them. Watch for it to bottom out after RTR block rotates.

Even though voice is only run in tier 2 decks those decks are still fairly common (at least where i'm at). The selesnya aggro is the true "mindless aggro" deck of the format, the deck requires requires little in the way of real strategy, just bury them under under card quality.
The main reason it's held so much value is that the card is very good in a vacuum. Their may not be a tier1 home for it, but the card is very powerful regardless. Just about every edh deck in the colors will at least consider it, and it seems really good with trostani as your general.

We're not allowed to buy/sell at my LGS. Only trades. Unless, of course, you're transacting with the LGS.

I cracked a foil one from Wal-Mart the next week after release. Traded it for x3 Bloodstained Mire. Have no idea why the guy wanted it THAT bad.

Just walk out to the street dude and make the sale.

We have a shop that sells cards on commission here. I sell there. Better than selling to any shop, and things don't rot in your binder until they are worthless.

Of course you can't sell cards in the shop. You can't bring outside candy into the movie theater either (some still do, because $5 is way too much for junior mints).

I just have a seller account on TCGPlayer. Things either sell for what I want out of them, or they don't and I find some other way.

Is it a hassle to set that up, and does anybody take a cut of your sale? That's an interesting idea.

You only get about 7/8 of what you sell a card for, and even less if you pay shipping yourself.
Posted: Sun Dec 01, 2013 11:08 pm
by DocLawless
I don't know how they do seller accounts now. I got an invite to have one last year when they were just starting to offer them to individuals. TCGlayer takes 8.5% of the sale + shipping, plus a credit card/PayPal processing fee, which is 2.5% + $.50. You sell something, TCGPlayer holds the payment in escrow until 1 business day after the item is delivered (if you don't use a tracking number, they assume six days and pay you on the seventh), so there is a non-existent amount of ripping. Unless you don't send it with tracking and they lie about having not gotten it.
Moral: Always ship with tracking.
Your shipping options and inventory space are somewhat limited until you've got several sales with positive feedback under your belt.

http://store.tcgplayer.com/help/shippingsettings
Overall
you net payment for less than the cards you sell are worth, but the hassles are zero as long as you can wait a few days for your money. Also, people shop there to buy for less than cards are worth, so unless you have the inventory volume of a small LGS you're not there to turn a profit. You're just there to enable "trades" no sane person would go for. I mean sure, I lost ~$5 on the value of that Voice, but I turned around and saved it plus some on the price of a Mox Opal... and, basically, I cracked a Mox Opal out of a Dragon's Maze booster.

I think ebay takes less of a cut than that, and you're basically selling at tcgplayer lows anyway. Ebay's my go-to, though I don't move anything less than ~$50, it's just not worth the time.
Also, once you move enough product you don't have to wait for your money.

I haven't looked into eBay. I looked into Amazon and that's basically a joke. But eBay and Amazon will let me sell non-singles, like my Commander sets, where TCGPlayer won't.

Best two strategists are both mtgs exiles. I'm sure the delicate sensibilities of now inactive scrubs (sorry, former PT plYers) were really worth protecting.

Got sick after thanksgiving. Lame. Played team sealed yesterday. We had 3 solid decks, UB control, RW heroic wit Anex and Cymade, and RG monsters(our best deck). Was fun until we got cheated out of the finals.
Prizes only when to top 2, and when we should have been a lock, the system used for computing results wasn't made for team events, did the math wrong and dropped us to third. One of my teammates whose an accountant spent like 2/3 hrs doing all the math I guess and they came to the conclusion that yes, we should have been in the finals. Unfortunately, people where tired of waiting after an hour so the finals started without us.
As far as the tourney itself goes, while small, there was actually very real competition. Round 2, we played the team that went undefeated and I guess 2 of their players are known grinders and the third player was Glenn Jones, the guy who does all the SCG Deck techs. There was also a guy who
top 4'd the LA open(and was the only good player on his team) who beat me in the tourney, though they lost to our team. The game 3 that decided the match was won on the back of our sideboarded fog.
Minus the ending, it was a fun tournament. We learned that your middle guy(me in this case) should not play the UB control deck. I was in the middle of several difficult spots when someone would ask me how to attack or block and I'm pretty sure I gave them horrible advice at least twice. We also learned that Boros agro beats Mono-Blue Devotion in limited. Annex and Cymade combined with dudes and combat tricks gives a fuck about master of Waves and Bident.

So in my local pauper meta the most dominant deck is a mono black control with a bunch of discard. I'm working on pauper burn and I came across
guerrilla tactics. I realize that in the wider meta it's terrible, but is it good enough when I know that in 4 rounds I will likely play against 2 different discard heavy decks? Just the idea of "Ravenous rats, okay take 4" is amusing.
