Elf and A Christmas Story are both required viewings for the season.

A Christmas Carol with Stewart is amazing though. He's a damn good actor. One of the big reasons I liked TNG as much as I did.

Outside of Christmas, I'm also a huge Groundhog Day fan, and that seems to come on a lot around this time of year despite it technically not being a Christmas story.

NINJAEDIT: and now I have one more reason to like Zem.

Favorite speech from The Princess Bride

Westley: To the pain means the first thing you will lose will be your feet below the ankles. Then your hands at the wrists. Next your nose.
Prince Humperdinck: And then my tongue I suppose, I killed you too quickly the last time. A mistake I don’t mean to duplicate tonight.
Westley: I wasn’t finished. The next thing you will lose will be your left eye followed by your right.
Prince Humperdinck: And then my ears, I understand let’s get on with it.
Westley: Wrong! Your ears you keep and I’ll tell you why. So that every shriek of every child at seeing your hideousness will be yours to cherish. Every babe that weeps at your approach, every woman who cries out, “Dear God! What is that thing,”
will echo in your perfect ears. That is what to the pain means. It means I leave you in anguish, wallowing in freakish misery forever.

Should be directed at Maze's End players.

Edit: And then piss on them for good measure.
I do very much love that speech, as well as the conversation between Westley and Anigo during their duel. But the Miracle Max scene ranks in my top movie scenes of all time...Billy Crystal and Carol Kane are just such a freaking hoot. I love her as the Ghost in Scrooged as well, running with Jame's mention of Bill Murray hilarity.

This. Billy Crystal is hilarious in Princess Bride. I'm always telling my wife, "While you're at it, why don't you give me a paper cut and pour lemon juice in it?" All with Crystal's New York Jewish
accent, I might add.

Very cool concept...boy finds out from dad that the men in their family can travel through time to get "do-overs" in order to try to get fix missed moments. In typical Richard Curtis fashion, the realities of getting what one wants often have very poignant impacts on life. If you and Pip enjoy such emotional exploration of life's moments, do take it in.

Okay...off to do some early Christmas shopping, drop off dry-cleaning and buy a turkey (I'm smoking one for the family get-together at my nephew's). Then have to pick up the gimped-out teenager girl after school as she's on crutches for 2 weeks. Rolled her ankle off the side of the driveway...erg. :(

@Val - Regrettably that feature is set up as "per forum" in the default install of the bbs. There is a patch that allows it to be controlled per person, but it's unofficial and not installed here I assume because the patch is not supported. I asked few weeks back about turning the function off and too many folks told me to leave it on for me to conscionably turn it off. You can invite folks to revisit it...I'm in agreeance with you as it drives me kinda nuts.

Never seen Love, Actually.
Cool movie if you like character-driven looks into relationships of all sorts...Richard Curtis films are something you generally like or hate. If you choose to watch it, do not bail before the end as it is a "full circle" kinda thing and you miss the entire message if you don't finish it. My ex originally watched it and bailed early saying she didn't care for it, and I encouraged her to go back and finish it...she came back with an entirely different opinion.

The last thing I'll be watching is anything about love/relationships...

With that said, I'm sure it's a good movie.

Yeah, Love Actually is one of those movies you can't stop watching if it's on tv. It's great! But Walking Dead has kind of ruined one of the character's a bit...

There's bromance in Love, Actually as well. Give it a chance.

Love, Actually is
one of my favorite movies. It explores how the concept of love plays out in different relationships from a multitude of angles, especially the four types exemplified by the ancient Greeks: agápe, éros, philia, and storge.

I love the shuffle feature on my iTunes. It played "Burning Inside" by Ministry followed by "Look to Your Orb for the Warning" by Monster Magnet. I hope that bodes well for FNM tonight. :D
