I think deep down the self-critical staffers (the ones who haven't buried their heads in the sand and gone 'LA LA LA WE CAN'T HEAR YOU'), know that they royally screwed up, but their collective "parliamentary paralysis" prevents them from doing much. Parliaments breed cowardice because people use the 'majority' as a safety blanket to hide behind (also why this parliament appeal process is a joke).
