The version of "Mars" on the CD of Heavy Classix is even better.

It looks like Roy's theme song should be "Brave Sir Robin." :evillol:

Eh, it is a genre that has become too self-aware in my opinion. I like the old stuff.

Helios, the old stuff is definitely where it's at.

I think the only "new" bands I'm even into are Black Label Society and Trivium. And by now, they're probably far from what anyone will call new.

I just realized I'm getting old. :frown:

Khaos, try looking into Gemini Syndrome. They're a pretty new metal band that's actually really really good

So I got so sick and tired of having to explain to people why firedrinker satyr is good, and why every other mono-red onedrop bar cackler is better so I wrote what basically amounts to an article on sally about it. If anyone wants to go over my work you can see it here: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthre ... st10983148.

You're like the least gay member of this clan.

And that's counting the fact that you voluntarily have sex with men.

Yeah, most of your points seem pretty much solid to me :P

I still don't use him, but that's just cause I have an aggro heavy meta, so weird just works better

I specifically stated that local meta influence is perfectly reasonable, just so long as you realize that if you jump into a new pond you are probably going to want it.

Boy do I love playing in a control heavy meta, it means so many free boosters and time to smoke in between rounds. RDW is the best deck for smokers. Even the round I lost was barely over 10 minutes, esper was under 5 minutes for both games.

I'll check that out later, Darth. I'm finishing up my teaching for the evening. It will be useful to have an article to point to regarding Firedrinker.

Edit: I love demonstration speech nights. So much food. Tonight, we had no bake cookies, belgian waffles, and chilli. So good.

Thanks for the props. I am contantly muttering long drawn out arguments/monologues about things like this under my breath, and I forgot how good it feels to coalesce them into something that might be helpful to people. In the past it has been about D&D character optimization, but deck building is not as conceptually different as one might suspect. It's all about maximizing opportunity costs within parameters.

What about UB Tempo? Not sure what kind of cards I'd want to really play there but both Duskmantle Seer and Nightveil Specter are the cards I'd start with. And I'd rather break the Devotion shell, focusing less on pernaments and more on spells.

UW has a much better toolset (and got less shitty cards in the last block) than UB. The only thing black has right now is amazing removal (and proactive removal, like thoughtseize), but white is no slouch in that deparment, and BW has much better potential than UB with sin collector, bloodbaron, obzedat, and such. UW>BW>UB.

UB tempo isn't good, but I'd play Duskmantle Seer in a mostly-black Esper build. The card does a lot of work, and you can just board wipe if you get dangerously low and can't afford another trigger.

It's probably strictly better than Desecration Demon in a shell like that, actually.

So more villager league stuff:

I decided to be "that guy." I built this and am going to play it a bunch tomorrow.

[deck]Doorkeeper[/deck]

I figured since the entire field is mono red aggro decks for the most part, this would do some fucking work. I MIGHT need a way to deal with Maze's End, but here's to hoping that I can simply mill away their win condition. (Milling away a full set of a certain guildgate basically makes the game unwinnable for them.)

I admit, I wouldn't run Firedrinker Satyr if I could run 8 Rakdos Cackler (Recently got a promo playset on modo real cheap). Of course, if that happened, mono black would whine that their Doom Blade is not doing anything.

My last game against esper went t1 cackler, t2 shred freak, t3 hammer, t4 fanatic kill. Why he tapped out after I dropped hammer is beyond me, but he revealed a hand with 3 doomblades after my nutdraw goldfish victory.

My last game against selesnya had me leave in satyrs and kill a smiter with one. Dude thought I would balk at taking six swinging into it, of course i'll take six, I really don't want you to have a 4/4.

If anything, my only problem with Firedrinker is that it was not a pup of sort. I could use a firebreathing cerberus, for instance.
