Which is funny because in games like Starcraft people understand instantly. If normal CA is having tons of workers on minerals, VCA is having tons of barracks to make marines.

(Watch me completely make an ass out of myself and get CA and VCA wrong)
No you're right. It's just that magic players are the worst competitive players of any game I have ever played. The level of competitive and strategic understanding in eSports underscores how retarded magic players are. Case and point, the following are considered world class players: Brad Nelson, Todd Anderson, Cedric
Phillips.

I rest my case.

@ JS, I agree. I think Japanese Nationals are likely the toughest in the world (France is second).
I think 40k players are much worse. An entire community of Johnny and Timmy's with very few Spikes.

The Japanese strike me as the most Johnny-ish of the Magic personality types. Didn't the pod decks come from over there?
Hard to nail JP players down, since they often just disregard American Meta and brew. I do think I'll be winning more when I get home in the spring though. It's like the Saiyan training vault thing. My time here has forcef me to improve. I won both the FNMs I entered when I was home last summer.

Admittedly I was a Warhammer fantasy national champ at 15, so maybe it's not the most competitive game.

For anyone on the fence about picking up Chandra. Grabbed my 3rd copy from LGS tonight at $20 before the algorithm crawls the web and updates, being friends with all the owners and clerks is a good thing ;P. Swapping out a second Hammer for a third Chandra increased my decks resilency by at least a factor of 3, one of the most important assets being the ability to abuse the new legend rule for a 3 card draw turn. Make sure to have at least 3 going into states! I'd totally loan some out if I had more.

ugh, having trouble getting decent testing a sledgehammer build on trice with people using a 3 detention spheres on a single ash zealot, rackdos cackler, and chandra's phoenix in one game only to tap out for elspeth with a chandra on ultimate. That and getting kicked from a game after turn 1 cackler.

I went to Monday night magic at the most competitive store in my area. I went 2-2 for the night.

Round 1 vs U/R Control
I 2-0 this pretty easily. I was able to build a board and get hammer online easily enough. Game 1 was almost a gold fish round. Game 2 he sat there countering me but lolhammer took over the game.

Round 2 vs Mono-Red
This guy used the SCG Open list, I went 1-2 with him. My current deck isn't too strong in the mono-red mirror when they're packing Ash Zealots and Boros Reckoners.

Round 3 vs Maze's End
During game 1 I thought this guy was Esper Control, but I blew him out before he could show anything. In game 2 I curved out into Burning Earth and that put an end to any sort of fog shenanigans he could pull off. I won this 2-0.

Round 4 vs U/W Control
Game 1 he had double Azorious Charm to
keep me stuck on 2 lands while he curved out. By the time I had 3 mana he had 5 or 6 and bullied me with it for the rest of the game. Game 2 I dropped him down to 2 health, but I drew 4 or 5 lands in a row and just couldn't get in for that last bit of damage. In retrospect, I should have been +1'ing Chandra into of digging through my deck, but it feels like digging is almost always the better option. If I just drew a hammer I could have pulled out a win. So a 0-2 loss for me.

I'm definitely thinking I should switch over to Zman's list. I like Emily but gambling with her is sooo risky. I think Zman's list will be more consistent and let me fight mono-red mirrors.

Also at the tournament, my buddy's ghetto green with bling list beat out another SCG open red deck with Tower Defense, [card]Predator's Rapport[/card], and Enlarge. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw the other guy's face.

Well...I finally got my credits in my go-to store. Then they got a small restock of Chandras, yay! Only problem is, it was 22€ a piece, boo! I was hoping to get two. Oh well, one is better than none. I turned away for a while, then suddenly there's just one left sitting at 28€! Screw this shit...I'll continue to play standard without mythics, and acquire Sacred Foundries and Koths with my credits instead.

Edit: Or should I just get it anyway...argh! I got those credits from dumping a lot of old trash commons (and a bunch of collected Lightning Bolts), so it's still almost like free. But that price...question is, do I have more fun with one Chandra or a bunch of Sacred Foundries and some other stuff? The lands would open up a lot of Modern decks for me in the future.

Get the Sacred Foundries and play Ham's Boros list. Win the Chandras.

I'm glad that Chandra is seeded heavy in M14, just as Bolas was in M13. I've hit 3 so far, thus the boy and I have 6 to work with (damn it hurts to buy for two!) between us counting the ones I picked up early. Somehow I don't think Elspeth is going to take a dip any time soon, and I'm not betting on see her heavy in packs. I've no plan to player her for now, but I imagine as we move forward in the season she will take on a significant role in control.

I'm curious about this list, so I'd be glad if you could show it (Don't think I can access the brewery.)

Umm...which deck is that? The burn deck in the clan development area? That one still have a bunch of Chandras. But I'll probably get some Foundries + some other stuff anyway. When in doubt, acquire a good mana base. The spells in a deck can always be changed, but without the lands you can't even play them.

I think it was basically like, 8 creatures (Figure of Destiny, Young Pyromancer) and a bunch of RW burn. (Lightning Helix, Bolts, Banefire, etc.) It didn't play Chandras.

I've found 2 Elspeths and 0 Chandras in packs, FWIW ^_^

Ah, I was looking at Standard decks. Yeah, decks like that is why I'm getting the lands instead. It opens up my burn options in Modern, and Zoo as well.

Notices it being the deck he piloted last time I spectated him in modo

It might have helped if those fetchs did not cost at least double the price of Chandra a piece, though (Yeah, I didn't bother with modo during Zendikar).

Fetches aren't mandatory in a deck like that. You're not playing Grim Lavamancer.

Looking over the Top 32 from the Open, there was a remarkably even split of 10 Aggro, 11 Midrange and 11 Control decks. The story is in the distribution, however:

-The overwhelming majority of aggro decks were in the top 16 (and those in the bottom were G/W Aggro...zem gets another notch on the prediction wall).
-The majority of midrange decks (almost all, in fact) were in the bottom 16.
-Control had a strong showing in Top 8, much less so 8-16, strong again 17-24, and dipping again 25-32.

Red aggro was all on the top end; the lowest finisher was 11th, and red represented 4 of the 11 aggro decks. G/R aggro and mid were distributed throughout, as were Boros Aggro and Mid. The only Rakdos list to make top 32 was an analog of Gerry T's BR Midrange at 29; the only other DD deck to make the cut was Dega Mid at 27th.

Granted, one Open is not a definitive sample, and I know nothing about the success percentages of each
archetype (decks of a given flavor starting the tourney compared to how many made top 32)...still, red drivers threw down the gauntlet and made clear they will be a force in the meta.

Esper will eventually turn into UB for consistency and meta will shape into:
Rx Aggro > UB
UB > UW
UW > Rx Aggro
That '>' Means 60-40 matchup.

I actually didn't move existing brewery content around to any great extent. Rather, I ported a bunch of lists and discussion from the main clan thread into stickies of relevant flavor.

As to Modern lists, I moved nothing. The main discussions of Modern red lists have been in the clan thread and in the original brewery thread, the latter of which is now residing in the brewery forum.
