Honestly just go out and do what you enjoy - with friends, preferably. That'll fix the lonely and bored thing, and you may even meet someone along the way.

Thanks to NerdBoyWonder for the amazing sig!
Son, I want you to know that no matter what happens between your mother and me, it's all your fault.

Talking to people takes practice, so do it often and pay attention to the topics that make your audience perk up / sit straighter. Body cues will tell you immediately if someone is uncomfortable, willing to talk/listen, bored, etc.
If you're not interesting, listen to other people instead of speaking. Ask questions. You'll eventually accumulate enough story currency to carry you through any conversation.
A LOT of people in their 20s/30s feel isolated and have no idea how to make friends outside of their work/gym/hobby groups. For every person that shrugs you off and ignores you, I guarantee you'll find two or three people who'll welcome someone who talks about stuff other than "safe" topics, like $sport $currentevent blah blah blah.
I like to ask folks what kind of super power fits them (telekinesis is mine, of course). You can usually tell a lot about someone's self-perception
with this question, and it can segue into a bunch of good topics.
still Thanksgiving traveling, long tiem no see clan.

Kaze, reconnect with some friends or old activities, like playing Magic with buddies and then go barhopping. Plug back into the local music scene.
What you need is a break from your normal routine of drinking and playing on the computer - something I did once my relationship went to shit. It's been something I've been struggling with myself. Personally, I've been finding more time to socialize with buddies, do less drinking (definitely after last Monday.... ), and focus on my job. Anything that will get my mind off of things. Hanging out with a chick-friend, one whom I have no intentions of fuckin, has helped a lot.
Basically, I'm learning to live with myself. Its been my number one lesson so far. I don't need to patch up my life's problems with sex or booze. I gotta own up to situation in life and roll with it while finding personal happiness.
And I hope you can do the same.

In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.

Kaze, start attending the biggest church in your area.
The girls are plentiful, gullible, and generally come from good families (which keeps the crazy to a minimum). Also, the vast majority of them IME are available because:
1. They want a "good Godly man" (or, at least, they think they do) and
2. "Good Godly men" are, as a rule, huge pussies around cute girls.
It's a little more work, but I think it's worth it.

We're back from Orlando with quite the experience. My wife got sick Thursday night and woke up Fri at around 1 am puking her brains out, then woke up at 2 with diarrhea. Then she goes back to throwing up and I hear a huge splatter sound. Yep, she was crouched over the toilet with her pants around her ankles and ended up shitting all over the bathtub. Meanwhile I'm trying to help out where I can. She eventually decides to let me take her to the hospital and then I start feeling funny too. I end up tossing cookies while I'm in the room with her and admit myself. I end up feeling so bad I can barely move and they load me up on Zofran and Phenergan. My wife came down before I was let out and she said she shook me so hard trying to get my attention but I didn't wake up so I was out of it. Then my mom and sister get sick and we're all trying to sleep it off while my dad watches the boys in our hotel room. I finally feel decent
enough to drive 6 hours on the road and my dad starts feeling bad too. So not a good end to our trip! I'm just glad the boys didn't get anything. We thought it may have been food poisoning but we all got sick at different times so it's rather strange.

Yesterday, my LGS did a back draft as a special Black Friday thing. For those unfamiliar with the "format," you essentially try to draft the worst deck possible. The pools are then all put into bags, and randomly distributed among the players. Top 5 got prizes, along with the person that drafted the deck that finished in last place. You can use any packs that you like, and for those without their own packs, the store had a box of assorted packs set out where you could pick 3 (at random) for $15. One guy brought 6 Homelands boosters (since there's only 8 cards per booster), but I still think that the worst packs came from Prophecy. My packs were Modern Masters, Prophecy and Avacyn Restored (which turned out to have a few damaged cards in it, so the owner let me trade it in for another random pack, which happened to be a Torment one with Grim Lavamancer). Leon, the guy next to me, also got a Modern Masters
booster, and I think they were one of the only things that stopped each game from going to turns. That and the bunch of core set boosters, which were full of reasonably-costed creatures. Somehow, Leon got a really good deck with a pretty good curve (how do you end up with 2 actual Grizzly Bears in back draft?) I ended up with Leon's pool. He's a very good drafter, so I didn't have much to work with. I still think that the pile of crap I drafted was worse than his, though.
Here's what I ended up with
[deck]
Cards I used:
1 Myr Sire
1 Clockwork Swarm
1 Arcbound Wanderer
1 Kite Shield
1 Spin Engine
1 Aladdin's Ring (I knew that this wasn't actually half-bad in a format where quick wins will almost never happen and clogged board states will be common)
1 Spiketail Hatchling
1 Phyrexian Ingester (fucking bomb-and-a-half right here)
1 Unsummon
1 Sleeping Potion
1 Daru Mender
1 Pallid Mycoderm
1 Sporesower Thallid
1 Seton's Scout
1 Acorn Harvest (this actually fucking killed me one game
when I forgot about the life loss when I flashed it back, then was reminded of it when he attacked next turn to bring me to what I though was 3 life
)
1 Spitting Spider
1 Deranged Outcast
1 Violent Outburst
1 Rift Bolt
1 Path of Anger's Flame
1 Desperate Ravings
1 Scourge of the Nobilis (this is better when there's more than 1 creature in your deck upon which this is actually effective)
Cards I didn't use:
1 Golden Wish
1 Kjeldoran War Cry
1 Abbey Matron
1 Think Twice (when your whole deck sucks, this is just a waste of mana)
1 Steel Sabotage
1 Corrupted Resolve
1 Rhystic Deluge
1 Envelop
1 Liberated Dwarf
1 Dwarven Demolition Team
1 Impulsive Maneuvers
1 Moriok Replica (in hindsight, I should have played this. I was set on the fact that it used black, and ignored what it really was: a creature for a creature-light, 4-color deck that didn't care if I had the right colors of mana)
1 Lead
Golem
1 Piston Sledge
1 Roterothopter
1 Falkenrath Noble (Leon said that this was his 15th pick, and this is definitely the type of card that wins games, but I just couldn't find another black card to make the fifth color worth it)
1 Urza's Guilt
1 Llanowar Vanguard
1 Calming Verse
1 Carapace
1 Child of Thorns
[/deck]
Random facts/thoughts:
Not many of them showed up in this pool, but you should have seen how seriously bad some of those Prophecy packs were.
Leon ended up winning the draft. I played him round 1, and actually went to game 3. I would have won, if I saw mountain or a plains before turn 10. Instead, I lost game 3 with 4 forests and 2 islands as my only lands.
I won a game where a guy had a Cemetery Reaper with a Sword of Light and Shadow on it on turn 5. That was a very long game (over 30 minutes) and he was not a good player, though. I initially was going to concede, but somehow I turned the game around.
I finished 1-1-1 (we were going to do another round, but it was almost
7 when the third finished, and the FNM crowd started showing up and wanted to play). I got $8 store credit, which went towards a Stormbreath Dragon.
This was the most fun I've ever had drafting. It was also the longest time spent drafting a pool of any draft I've ever participated in. It's quite funny seeing a misprinted Hellrider in the 11th pick. I encourage all of you to bring up the idea with the owner of your LGS.
Lastly, does anyone think that they could have made something better than I did, aside from just swapping the cards I said were bad with the ones I wished I played? I know this exercise is usually done with sealed pools, but I'd like to see what people come up with.

Heh, you wish. If you don't like how we keep kicking everyone else's butts, then your colleges should get better at football ;Psaw that the end was exciting though, so cool
Glad the sec shouldn't get another championship this year.

this is an established system, if there was (or is) a precedent for 1 loss teams from a power confrence to make it in over undefeated teams from a power conference for the championship, then fine, but afaik, thats not the way things happen in the bcs.
(good thing this argument will almost be a thing of the past next year)

Well if Auburn wins out they will have beaten two top five teams two weeks in a row as well as 2-3 other ranked teams. That's a much more impressive feat than going undefeated in the Big Televen/Fourteen/WhateverWeCantCount. I wouldn't be too upset if we didn't jump them though. FSU would drill them anyway and I don't like our matchup against FSU either.
